Foundation Night 2017

heart of gold

The FAWCO Foundation celebrated its 50th Anniversary with the Heart of Gold fundraiser on Saturday, April 1st, at The Trident Hotel, Nariman Point, Mumbai, India.

The evening began with a cocktail hour and an opportunity to peruse the Silent Auction tables which offered close to 200 items!  The Lucky Dip was populated by handcrafts made by two Mumbai NGOs, Assema and Jai Vakel, as well as many items donated by local shops: Nicobar, Good Earth, CAC, Begham, Chimanlals, India Circus, Seven Seas and Fab India.

Foundation President, Patti Meek, welcomed the approximately 160 heart, gold and butterfly bedecked delegates and guests and served as hostess for the festivities.

A beautiful 50th Anniversary presentation was a special treat during the event, highlighting 50 years of FAWCO members and Member Clubs giving to The Foundation in support of its programs.  Generosity throughout the years has allowed The Foundation to sustain its programs and support its members and their chosen charities and projects.

The Silent Auction concluded with the usual furious countdown.  By the time it was over, more than $7,100 had been raised!

Emerald ring raffle sales had been brisk throughout the weekend as delegates anticipated the drawing for the stunning emerald ring that evening.  Almost $3,900 was raised through ticket sales.  And the winner was Jodie Rynn!

Although the quilt drawing did not actually take place on Foundation Night, we would like to thank Roberta Zöllner and her industrious quilt block contributers for helping us raise $2,700.  The lucky quilt winner was Jodie Rynn.  Jodie graciously donated the schoolhouse quilt to AWC Mumbai.

The costume contest was, as always, a lively affair. This year's winner was Janet Darrow, in her beautiful butterfly and gold heart costume, channeling her inner Butterfly Warrior!

The Live Auction followed a delicious buffet of flavorful Indian and continental dishes.  Up for bids this year were some beautiful jewelry items and many fabulous travel opportunities to destinations near and far.  Participants were very enthusiastic and extremely generous raising over $35,000, with the proceeds from one of the lots specifically designated for the new Target project, Hope Beyond Displacement.  Michelle Hendrikse Dubois was this year's charming and spirited auctioneer and we thank her for a job very well done!

As always, the conference delegates and guests reached deep into their pockets throughout the weekend as they became Benefactors, bid on auction items, and purchased charms, Backing Women merchandise and raffle tickets.  For this, we are truly grateful.  Your generosity will allow us to continue making a significant impact on many people's lives with the truly worthy programs supported by The FAWCO Foundation, FAWCO, FAUSA and FAWCO Member Clubs.

The Board of The FAWCO Foundation also wishes to acknowledge and thank all of the donors and volunteers who contributed to the success of the Heart of Gold fundraiser, with special thanks to Kama for their lovely parting gifts of luxury products.

Heartfelt thanks to everyone for their giving spirit, generosity and support.
