What are MDGs?

The eight Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) – which range from halving extreme poverty to halting the spread of HIV/AIDS and providing universal primary education, all by the target date of 2015 – form a blueprint agreed to by all the world’s countries and all the world’s leading development institutions. They have galvanized unprecedented efforts to meet the needs of the world’s poorest.  -- www.un.org/millenniumgoals

FAWCO Announces The Target Program -
The Foundation’s Role

In March at the FAWCO Conference in Vilnius, FAWCO and The FAWCO Foundation announced a four year program to bring a critical global issue to the attention of the extended FAWCO community and the world.  The Target  Program is a strategy for education and fundraising that will highlight a specific problem and look for solutions.  The goal of this program is to contribute to the attainment of the UN Millennium Goals.

The FAWCO Target Program Issue is Announced! It's Water!

FAWCO is extremely excited and energized about the next phase of the Target program. The Water Task force is already working to provide information to build awareness on this extremely important global issue.

FAWCO Clubs will become the experts on water, and through the awareness campaign we hope that clubs or individuals will propose projects for selection as the Bulls Eye Project.

Every 15 seconds, a child dies from a water-related disease. Globally, women and girls spend an average of three hours each day collecting water, leaving little time for a "non-essential" such as school.  884 million people lack access to safe water supplies, approximately one in eight people. Without food a person can live for weeks, but without water you can expect to live only a few days. Water problems affect half of humanity! The Environment Task Force feels the Target Program should focus on increasing the supply of safe and secure water globally.

Hitting The Bulls Eye - The Foundation’s Role

Over the next few months as FAWCO Club members learn more about the issue, they may read about projects that are working to solve the problem. These projects may be nominated for the second part of the program, “hitting the Bull’s Eye.” The FAWCO Foundation will coordinate the selection of the Bull’s Eye Project.  Proposals for the Bull’s Eye Project will be made online through The Foundation’s website www.fawcofoundation.org [form is under final revision and will be posted soon].  The deadline for submitting proposals to The Foundation is June 30, 2010.  The Foundation will form a Bull’s Eye Selection Committee who will investigate and review every submitted project proposal.  This committee will select the three final projects and clubs will be able to vote for their choice.  The Bull’s Eye Project will be announced in Nov. 1, 2010.

Once the Bull’s Eye project has been selected, fundraising for the project will go into full swing.  The Foundation will coordinate the FAWCO-wide fundraising activities and support fundraising at the club level.  This will be an exciting time for FAWCO Member Clubs; through all of our efforts we hope to be able to wage the most successful fundraising campaign in the history of FAWCO!

We hope that all FAWCO Member Clubs will be involved in the program by promoting the educational and awareness of the Target issue and participating in the Bull’s Eye fundraising campaign.  FAWCO Member clubs can make a difference! Become a Force for Change!
