General Requirements
The following information refers to the 2011 Academic Awards, the Members’ Awards and the Dual Cultural Awards. The requirements for applying for the Special Challenges Fund can be found with the Special Challenges Fund Application form.
1. The FAWCO Foundation Awards application package includes the following:
• The 2011 Application Form • Biographical Essay • Proposed Field of Study Essay • List and Description of Academic Awards • List and Short Description of Non-Academic Activities 2. Each candidate must complete the 2010 Foundation Awards application package and supply the requested supporting documents in order to be considered for an award.
3. The application forms should be downloaded from The Foundation website (available on the right of this page)
4. In addition, two Letters of Recommendation are required. (One from a teacher or professor and the other from a professional person who is not a member of your family). These letters must be in sealed envelopes addressed to the Foundation Awards Program Administrator with the signature of the author(s) on the back flap. Applicants are advised to request these letters early in the application process, keeping in mind that teachers and professors are often not available during school breaks.
5. A candidate may apply for only one FAWCO administered award per year.
6. The candidate's parents or the candidate must be living abroad at the time of application. The candidate's parent (or grandparent in the case of the Dual Cultural Award) or the candidate must have been a member in good standing of a FAWCO club for at least one continuous calendar year at the time of the application deadline. If the member has transferred from one FAWCO club to another with an interruption of no longer than three months, the applicant will still be considered as having met this requirement.
7. The completed Awards application package (See Number 1 above) must be sent as an attachment by email to the Awards Program Administrator no later than January 21, 2010.
8. Signed hard copies of the Awards application package, academic records and letters of recommendations, a passport size photograph and the $US25 application fee (check or proof of bank transfer) must be sent via priority mail and postmarked no later than January 24, 2010.
9. Academic records and signed letters of recommendation may be mailed separately, but must also be postmarked no later than January 24, 2010.
10. Fall 2009 semester grades will be accepted up to February 16, 2011.
General Information
1. The Foundation Awards application package and all supporting documents become the property of The FAWCO Foundation and cannot be returned. All files are kept for three years.
2. Previous recipients may not apply except in the case of the Dual Cultural Award recipients who may apply for a university level award.
3. The receipt of applications will be acknowledged by email.
4. Only requested documents will be considered. Do not send videos, tapes, extra essays or letters.
5. The academic awards are for study during the academic year 2011/2012, and may include summer 2011 study.
6. The award recipients will be announced at the FAWCO Conference in Marrakesh in March 2011, and all candidates will receive notification thereafter informing them of the Awards Committee's decisions.
Disqualification may occur if:
A. Any of the documents requested is omitted or not emailed or posted by the stipulated deadlines;
B. Lack of requested signatures from the FAWCO Club Representative or President;
C. Essays longer than the length specified and/or failure to write on a requested topic.
