The Stop the Press Dress | One Fantastic Outfit
A scarf from the Hague, a pin from Korea, a skirt from Dubai!! After the “Wild” success of the Wild Woman Wear last year in Vilnius, The FAWCO Foundation once again auctioned off a very special ensemble during the Extra! Extra! Extravaganza in Boston. And the winning bidder was Dale Koepenick of FAUSA!
All FAWCO clubs were asked to contribute an item of clothing or an accessory (note the feather boa!) to create the 2010 Stop the Press Dress! Items were turned in at the start of the conference in Boston, and our own Stop the Press Dress Diva, Elizabeth Kennedy, was our model. The entire outfit was auctioned off during a live bid. All funds raised will go toward supporting The Foundation’s programs. Thank you everyone who bid. That's Fashion for a Cause!

About Us | For Reps & RCs | The 2010 FAWCO Conference THE FOUNDATION GAZETTEEXTRA! EXTRA! EXTRAVAGANZA MADE HISTORY IN BOSTON Boston Massachusetts | Dateline 2010: Boston Park Plaza Hotel
Decked in black, white and red of 1940’s glamour, the hotel ballroom beckoned conference attendees to celebrate the work that FAWCO clubs have done through their Foundation over the years. Guests showed their spirit in the colors of the evening, and enjoyed browsing the tables of Silent Auction items during a cocktail hour set to the sounds of Frank Sinatra and the Rat Pack and a show of news headlines from The Foundation. A very moving presentation was given, "Making History, History Made," which showcased the valuable work of The Foundation and the incredible impact that our Development Grants and Awards programs have on lives around the world. As dinner began, so too did our Stop the Press Dress auction, with Region 4 Coordinator Elizabeth Kennedy (AWC the Hague) modeling a truly unique ensemble of donated items. Kicking off the Live Auction, it got everyone bidding. The Live Auction was a rousing success, with wonderful homes in exotic locales and beautiful one-of-a-kind necklaces on offer. Auctioneer Janet Darrow-Winter was a star, while her husband Doug showcased properties and drove up the bidding. Hands were flying! It was a fun evening for everyone with some terrific prizes. Did Your Club Host a Party? For those club members who couldn't make it to the conference but wanted like to join in on the fun of the “Extra, Extra! Extravaganza,” we are looking for photos of those who hosted their own party at someone’s home or a club-friendly location. Did you keep the newspaper theme going with decorations and encourage club members to attend in black, white and red attire? We hope it was a fun way to educate your club on some of the great aspects of FAWCO and The FAWCO Foundation. If you have photos or an article on the event, please contact the VP-Fundraising. |

100% of funds raised go directly to support The Foundation and the programs that are important to you, our Clubs and members.
Earring Necklaces | A Very Special Project
If you take two
talented crafters, Brenda Loomis and her cousin, Corrine Ocon, and you mix in
the cast off jewelry of FAWCO members from around the globe; what do you
get?
You get several exquisite, unique necklaces and bracelets created to raise money for The FAWCO Foundation grants and DG’s.
Created from a hodgepodge of earrings, pins and rings sent from many clubs and painstakingly pieced together, these beautiful pieces of jewelry were part of the Live Auction in Boston. There is a personal touch of the heart involved in this project. We were fundraising for the projects that are near and dear to your heart. Brenda and Corrine donated many hours of time and talent to create such stunning wearable art; many of the earrings donated had a beautiful history to them and it is wonderful that these earrings were sent with the best wishes that they will be cherished again in their new existence while doing good through The FAWCO Foundation.

Recipient of The FAWCO Foundation Conference Donation
The FAWCO Foundation is pleased to support the projects that are the passion of FAWCO organizations. Each year, The Foundation asks the FAWCO conference organizers to designate a charity to receive a donation from The Foundation’s Silent Auction proceeds. This year's host, FAUSA (FAWCO’s alumnae association), selected The American Overseas Domestic Violence Crisis Center as the recipient.
The center serves abused Americans, mostly women and children, in both civilian and military populations overseas. Their priority is to reach as widely and deeply as possible into the American communities outside the borders of the US and raise awareness of the services they offer to battered American women and children to help them realize that they do have alternatives to living a life of violence and to help them break the cycle. The Foundation’s “Extra, Extra Extravaganza” event in Boston was a tremendous success. Bidding during the Silent Auction portion of the night was fast and furious. Clubs and individual donors contributed over 200 items to the auction. At the end of the evening over $8500 was raised. 20% of this amount will go directly to aid The American Overseas Domestic Violence Crisis Center.
Paula Lucas, Founder and Executive Director of The American Overseas Domestic Violence Crisis Center, was present at the conference and presented an update on the work the organization has done in aiding victims of domestic violence. In 1975, Sonja Beaumont, former AAWE and FAWCO president was working with a group of overseas Americans in a campaign to get the vote. She along with Phyllis Michaux initiated a successful letter writing campaign that eventually led to the passage of H.R. 3211 and S-95, which granted Americans abroad the right to vote through absentee ballots. Using tea bags to illustrate the Boston Tea Party’s successful campaign to get representation, letters flooded Congress and the bill was passed in December of 1975.
Thirty five years later, The FAWCO Foundation is recognizing the “power of tea” in an effort to raise money in support of The Foundation’s Special Challenges Fund, part of the Education Awards program.
This fund is for the parent of a student between the ages of 5 and 15 years of age with a special challenge such as physical handicap, hearing impairment, visual impairment, autism, traumatic brain injury, or with a specific learning disability. The Fund is for specialized training or tutoring at a recognized private or public school, or other specialized institution, for a therapy program carried out by licensed professionals, or for special equipment or devices needed to facilitate the student’s educational progress. The training or tutoring may be carried out in any country.
Please make a tax deductible donation to the 2011 Special Challenges Fund to raise the $3000 to maintain this fund. We began collecting funds at the FAWCO Conference in Boston, with tea bags given as tokens of appreciation. Please help us meet our goal and consider donating online via the Awards PayPal button on our How Can I Donate? page. Thanks for being “tea-rific”!

“The silver lady
was purchased in Ecuador when I was
working for Save the Children. It was the first time I actually invested
in a
pair of earrings and, of course, I lost one the first time I wore them.
The

What’s Black and White and Red all over? More than just a newspaper! With the FAWCO conference including the topic of Journalism, it seemed fitting for The FAWCO Foundation to use their March 12th Foundation Night to throw a newsworthy party in historic Bean town. And what a party! Thanks to everyone who participated, we raised over $20,000 for The FAWCO Foundation's Programs!
