Awards Update

Congratulations to 2008 FAWCO Foundation Arts Award recipient Claudia Jane Scroccaro, who will be conducting the John Cabot Chamber Orchestra 26-28 June in Rome. The concert will include pieces by Mozert, Britten, and Bartok. Claudia received the $5000 Arts Award for her accomplishments in music. She has been studying music all her life, and is a student in the
Masters Degree in Music Program at the University of Rome. Her specialization is contemporary music. We wish her well as she begins her professional career as an orchestral conductor. Read more about Claudia and our other Past Awards Recipients.
The Foundation announced the recipients of the 2009 Education Awards and Development Grants at the 39th annual FAWCO Conference. THANKS to all of our 2008 FAWCO Club sponsors and individual donors. Their contributions made the 2009 Education Awards Program and the Development Grants Fund Program possible. $66,000 was awarded by The Foundation for these two programs.
Help Us Build the ERF Wall

Started in March at the conference in Vilnius, our ERF Great Wall Project is growing! Brick by Brick, number by number, FAWCO club members came through at the conference. We need to finish what they started. Did you donate to the wall? Find your name on our virtual wall. Or if you or your club, friends, or family would like to buy a brick and change a life, please see our ERF Great Wall. Announcing the FAWCO Target Program

About Us

The FAWCO Foundation is the philanthropic arm of FAWCO, the Federation of American Women’s Clubs Overseas. FAWCO consists of over 75 clubs throughout the world.
The Foundation’s sole purpose is to aid charitable, educational and scientific programs that are the passion of FAWCO and its member clubs. We are a US non-profit corporation, registered in the State of Missouri as a 501(c)3 tax exempt organization.
Why I Donate to The Foundation
I believe in The Foundation and its far-reaching multiplier effect. It presents a vast and invaluable worldwide source of women eager to continue their education for the greater good. Education is the key with which to unlock closed doors and dispel misconceptions. At the same time, the recipients of funding are satisfying a personal need and goal of following their heart. My latest donation has reached women in Columbia and Lebanon, something difficult to achieve without tapping into The Foundation connection. Thanks to The Foundation everyone is a winner!
~ Shirley Kearney, AWC Basel
Shirley is a strong and committed believer in the need for on-going education. She realized early on that The Foundation could help her by reaching out to FAWCO members who needed funds in order to resume their education.
Her financial support took off in 1987 with a donation to the scholarship fund through sales of the first edition of the publication Basel: A Cultural Experience. Donations through further sales continued until 1999. In 2005 a second edition carried forth her commitment to Basel and The Foundation. The honorarium from the publisher was transferred directly to The Foundation. An early conviction that ongoing formal education - and that one person can make a difference was firmly established.
Her 30-year love affair with The Foundation is strong. As a former board member and a one-time member of the scholarship selection committee, she was deeply moved after reading the applications. Could there be so many enthusiastic and worthy members in search of further education? Education is the way. The FAWCO Foundation offers an international resource for aiding and helping us to reach this end.
2009 DG Funds and Awards Already at Work!

June Letter from the President

We have all heard the expression “Charity begins at home”. FAWCO club members are unique because their “homes” cover a vastly larger circle –supporting projects where they live, projects from their hometowns and the programs supported by The FAWCO Foundation. This generosity is so special in light of the financial difficulties many clubs and individuals are facing this year.
The FAWCO Foundation recently reviewed the proposal for the 2010 Educational Awards and Development Grants Fund Program for 2010. We believe that it is important for us to work very hard to support our two most important programs at their current levels so that as many people as possible can benefit from them.
Funding for both of these programs comes first and foremost from donations made by FAWCO Member clubs and individual Friends of the Foundation. Donations made each year help to underwrite programs for the following year. We know that the current dismal economic situation makes it especially challenging, yet many of you continue to give. The Foundation, and especially those who will receive our Awards and Development Grants, will be grateful for your support.
The money donated to The FAWCO Foundation’s programs can create an immediate difference in the lives of the recipients. A 2009 Development Grant is providing equipment for a Health Center for children who must work in a garbage dump in Kenya. An Educational Award has helped a dedicated student affected by the impact that Fetal Alcohol Syndrome had on her adopted brother to study to become a pediatric neurologist. Two small children from an impoverished region of China are alive today because of life saving heart surgeries provided through a Development Grant .
The negative impact of the economic situation isn’t “trickling” down. It is “pouring” down with tsunami-like force. The FAWCO Foundation is looking to FAWCO member clubs, their individual members and other Friends of the Foundation to help us underwrite the 2010 Awards and Development Grants Fund programs so that we can continue to offer assistance to those who truly need it. Any donation, no matter the amount, will help us continue our work.
We sincerely hope that before you begin your summer activities, you will consider making a donation to The FAWCO Foundation. We will be announcing our 2010 program in mid-August, and we want to be able to offer a full program to FAWCO member clubs. Donations can be made online or by check. Many thanks,
~Elsie
