Help “School Supplies” Project
FUNDRAISING IDEAS
|
 |
Dear Student,
On behalf of the FAWCO Alumnae and The FAWCO
Foundation I would like to welcome you to The
Kids Help “School Supplies” Project.
Thank you for opening your hearts and for sharing
your time and talents to help children in Bogotá,
Colombia experience the joy of attending school.
My responsibility as project coordinator is to
help you make your fundraising a success, and
to make sure that you are recognized for your
support and effort with a Letter of Recognition.
Everyone wants to see where their money goes
and together we will make sure that it goes to
something close to their heart. While some people
think of their donations as a serious consumer
choice, others may think of their donations as
a meaningful expression of their individuality.
In addition, many people prefer to put their names
behind their gifts and this trend in fundraising
makes the “School Supplies” Project
Certificate the perfect gift for the person who
has everything.
The Project offers you a variety of choices.
You may collect funds by organizing an event,
by selling individual certificates or by collecting
from a specific group and presenting the participants
with a single group certificate of recognition.
I have included a list of ideas to help you get
started. You are free to use any that you feel
can be of help to you in reaching your goal. Please
remember that you can contact me directly at any
time with your questions.
I am here to help you help others. Together we
can bring smiles to children in need who, like
you, laugh, cry, play, have high hopes and dreams,
and believe that life can be good. You know something?
If you think positively you’re likely to
make it happen!

Fundraising Ideas to get
YOU started!
- The golden rule in fundraising is to always
ask for permission from the director/person
responsible for the business/activity if you
can have a specific date and time to ask for
donations. Be sure to take a few photocopies
of the “School Supplies” Project
explanation with you that explains the purpose
of the project and where the money will go.
It is also important to give this person the
address of The FAWCO Foundation website www.fawcofoundation.org
(click on fundraising) so they can check that
this is a serious and valid project.
- When asking for donations you should remember
to say “would you like to have the pleasure
of giving a few coins to help?” I have
been successful in fundraising with these very
words. If I say "can or would you"
that gives the person in front of me the possibility
to say “No, I can't because...”
But by asking if they would like to “have
the pleasure of,” it is very difficult
to say no. By asking in a non-forceful manner,
the person in front of you is more comfortable
with his donation.
- Make a plan of where you would like to start.
If you play a sport, belong to a club, go to
the gym or go to a dance school you should start
with these friendly faces. You can easily use
the famous “coins only” collection
in this occasion. Take an empty clear plastic
mineral water bottle and glue on it a photocopy
of the certificate with the name of the group
on it. For example “EAGLE'S RUGBY TEAM”
or “MARY JANE'S DANCE SCHOOL.”
- When fundraising, be sure to take photocopies
of the “School Supplies” Project
explanation with you that explains the purpose
of the project and where the money goes. Many
donors may want to keep a copy.
- Recruit a family member or a friend who is
willing to help you with your fundraising effort.
Ask them to share their expertise and special
talents for fundraising with you.
