The FAWCO Emergency Relief Fund has been Activated to Aid Victims of the Earthquake in China


On May 12, 2008, a horrific earthquake struck in the Sichuan province of China. The earthquake registered 7.9 on the Richter scale leveled towns and villages throughout the area.
The death toll stands at nearly 70,000. Particularly tragic was the deaths of thousands of small children who were attending classes at their local schools.

The AWC of the Hague has called for the activation of the Emergency Relief Fund. FAWCO President, Celeste Brown has asked the FAWCO Foundation to begin a broad search for a specific project within China to be the recipient of donations from this effort. We are aware that people appreciate making a donation in times of a world crisis via FAWCO because of our efforts to find a specific and tangible project to help survivors have a brighter future.

Nominate a project for the Emergency Relief Fund!

We need your help to find a worthy project to receive FAWCO’s cumulative donation. If you are aware of a project in China that has developed as a result of the recent earthquake, we would like to hear about it. Please fill out the nomination form (Word .doc) with project details and submit it to The FAWCO Foundation VP Programs, Dolores Cuellar (AWC Bogota) for consideration.

Deadline for submissions: October 10, 2008 We would like to choose a specific project for FAWCO’s ”China earthquake ERF” soon, so please submit your nominations.


Donate to the Emergency Relief Fund!

Donations from individuals and FAWCO Member Clubs should be sent to The FAWCO Foundation. A new method of online payment is being developed; until it is up and running you may make your donation by check or by electronic bank transfer. To make a donation, please fill out this donation form (Word .doc) and submit it to The FAWCO Foundation Treasurer Liz Hemminger (AW Surrey). Checks should be made payable to The FAWCO Foundation and mark the check: ”China Earthquake ERF”.
